UFO Recession Tip 70 - 10 Easy Ways to Lower Electricity Bills
Earthlings, it is very simple to lower your electricity bills during recession. Here are 10 easy ways you can be GREEN like us and save money:
Tip 1: Adjust Your Thermostat by 4 Degrees
This is Didiot-proof. Humans, you do not need a college degree to effectively operate a thermostat. Simply set your thermostat to four degrees lower in the winter, and four degrees higher in the summer. Most people in your dwelling will not notice the difference. This simple trick can save you a whopping $40 a month on your electric bill. During hours when nobody is home, lower it up or down by an additional 5 or 10 degrees to double your savings.
Tip 2: Turn Off that Light!
Simply turn off lights when you leave a room for longer than 30 seconds. We hope you are not one of those lazy Earthlings who make such a big deal of lifting their small finger to push the light lever down.
Tip 3: Add Romance
Candlelight is romantic and saves electricity! And love keeps you warm in the winter. See UFO Recession Tip 50: Turn Out Lights and Have Fun.
If you do not like candles for romance, then you need to see Dr. Phil.
You might need therapy. Candles are one of the most pleasurable items
we have used since crashing on your planet. It gives us a very easy
excuse to turn off the lights and get romantic.
Tip 4: Change Your Bulbs
Surely
you are not one of those Texas Aggies jokes where they ask "How many
Aggies does it take to change a light bulb?" We think it only takes one
Aggie to change the light bulb. Remember Earthling, each new
compact fluorescent light bulb saves an average of $30 in energy cost
over its
lifetime. It lasts 10 times longer than the old incandescent bulbs and
use 2/3 less energy. More information at ItsthePlanetDidiot.com
Tip 5: Unplug Your Stuff.
Unplug all electrical appliances, cell phones, television, toasters, etc. when not in use. Read more about "vampire energy" at UFO Recession Tip 9: Dare to Go Unplugged.
Tip 6: Keep the Fridge Full
A
fridge that is full of food uses less electricity than one that is
nearly empty. This is a good reason to buy food in bulk which saves
more money. Cool hot food before you place it in your refrigerator to
save energy, and always close the door as soon as possible. This also
goes for the laundry machines and dishwashers. Use them only when full.
We know this might all seem logical, but some Didiot Earthlings do not
like to use logic.
Tip 7: Baby Your Water Heater
15%
of your dwelling's electricity bill goes to heat water. Save 3 to 5% on
your energy bill by simply lowering the temperature of your water
heater by 10 degrees. Wrap your water heater in a cozy blanket so it
stays warmer and uses less electricity. You can also wrap your water
pipes. Please do not go overboard and try to make love to your water
heater or water pipes. They just need to be embraced by blankets.
Tip 8: Let the Wind Blow
Alternative
energy sources can save a lot of money in the long run. Wind power is
wonderful, but a wind turbine requires an open space of at least 1 acre
and a place where the wind blows most of the day.
Tip 9: Harness the Sun
Humans, solar panels harness
the sun's energy to heat your water, and provide electricity for your
dwelling. Place a solar panel on your roof. You do not need a full day
of sunshine to get enough energy. The investment may be high at first,
but many
countries give tax benefits for investments of alternative energy,
and in the long term you will save a lot of money.
Tip 10: Energy Star
Only use appliance with good Energy Star ratings to save energy and be green like me.
ONE MORE: Air dry
Air dry your dishes after washing and air dry your clothing on a line to keep your electricity bill down.
